How do I know my dryer vent is clogged and not just my dryer failing?
Run one load and put your hand on the outside vent flap while the dryer is going. A clear run pushes warm air out hard enough to feel from a foot away. Weak or barely warm airflow at the flap, with a hot dryer and hot laundry room, points at the vent. Does the vent get cleaned from inside the house or from outside?
Both, and that matters. Cleaning only from the laundry room leaves the far end of the run and the exterior hood untouched, which is exactly where lint packs hardest and where a bird nest or a stuck flap sits. What happens if the dryer vent exits through the roof?
Roof and second-floor terminations are common in Cary two-story homes and they need different equipment and more time, because the run is longer, mostly vertical, and lint settles back down it.
